72 Days

Find Me and Arizona Search Track and Rescue (AZ-STAR) arrived last Friday to help our family in our search for Steve earlier today. They had a briefing early morning between 5-6AM and head out to 9 search areas. I think the search lasted until 7PM.

Those Steve’s Missing Person flyers are working. When we had the Let’s Bring Steve Home Prayer Vigil last week, there was a sighting of Steve around Santa Monica. And this happened because the reporting party received Steve’s Missing Person flyer from my uncle Jim who did his own personal search around that city last month.

Mass Media.

Why am I still reaching out to the press?

I was talking to one of the sergeants at the Burbank Police Department a month ago about the leads that the Volunteers had gathered. He asked me, why is it that the person who might have seen Steve did not call the BPD or even the FBI. I simply told him, “He didn’t know that Steve is a Missing Person.”

There is no awareness.

Find Me and AZ-STAR,  a unique team of search volunteers who are coming from Arizona,  almost couldn’t make it this weekend because the hotel they’re trying to arrange for accommodations changed  their rate. I’m really glad that Detective Gordon from the Burbank Police Department helped out these groups to negotiate a better rate in a different hotel which is the Holiday Inn.

Priorities.

I had an interesting discussion with a family friend last night. She told me that when she deals with her own problems, she prioritizes the things that she needs to do depending on the role which is the most important for her – as a wife, as a mother, as a daughter, as a sister, as an employee, etc. She advices me that I should Continue reading “69 Days”

“It’s not like on tv.”

As I browse through the family forums on the Project Jason website, I learned about other families struggle dealing with a missing loved one. Our family was still fortunate that somehow, we were able to get national media awareness during the first week that he has been missing which results in getting leads from the public. The law enforcement organizations were able to use helicopters with infrared equipment, canine units, and physical search for twelve days. Most families don’t even get any media attention, no searches and no investigation. I’m learning that it takes a lot of time and manpower to conduct a proper investigation and search. The LE’s (Law Enforcement) don’t solve a case in an hour or two.

And that’s the reality of it all.

I did have twelve days and I should be really thankful, right?

The reality is that there are too many missing people and not enough LE to do the type of investigation that is needed in some of the cases. The reality is that most of the time, the LE err to the side of willful missing/will be Continue reading “68 Days”

This coming Saturday, July 21 we’ll resume the Let’s Bring Steve Home Voluntary Search Activity. We are lucky to have Find Me group and Arizona Search Track And Rescue (AZ-STAR) to help us in finding Steve or clues about his disappearance. That is only one part that will be ongoing regarding our Voluntary search. My family and friends are also planning to check out medical facilities which could be a challenging task. I’ll get into this more next time since I would like to talk about the Volunteer group that will be coming from Arizona.

After the mass, we pass by the statue of Mother Mary in the church’s garden and our little munchkin said, “Mama Mary, bring Daddy home.” I think it stuck with him when I told him that I’m praying to Mama Mary to help us bring Daddy home.

One of the things we love to do in the evening and weekends is to read books when I get home. I’m quite strict with limiting his television time but how can you resist it when he ask, “Elmo with milk, please?” I don’t go clubbing Continue reading “66 Days”

One of the things I really miss is when the little munchkin slept in our bed with me and Steve. He usually stays in his crib but there were times on weekends we all slept together in one bed. Or during the week, Steve would bring the little one when he wakes up in the morning and he’ll have his morning milk lying down in our bed. I know he’s two years old already but we still let him drink his morning milk in a feeding bottle. It’s his comfort food and that’s all right with us. These days, it’s just the two of us in one big bed.

Campaign For The Missing.

According to the Department of Justice’s website that in 2011, there are about 94,152 Missing Children, and about 35,242 Missing Adults in California. That’s a total of 129,394 Missing People. That means that 354 people were missing everyday. But they are more than numbers. These people are loved by someone.

During the first two weeks that Steve had been missing, I just felt lost & helpless. I have no control on what’s going on. I wanted to go out and find Steve but I don’t know how to start. There weren’t any resources that was given to us so that me and my family would know what to do if your loved one is missing. Although, I’m grateful that the Employee Continue reading “64 Days”

I’m exhausted. I think this weekend I’ll be taking a break from doing my own personal searches but it doesn’t mean that I’m giving up. I’ll be concentrating on Kyle & my work for the next few days.

Butterfly Mass Release During Our Wedding
Butterfly Mass Release During Our Wedding

I think I mentioned yesterday about the butterfly that stayed with me & landed on my hand after the butterfly mass release. It felt unusual because it seems that butterflies are quite elusive. I’d never had a butterfly landed on my hand before and it seemed that it stayed there for about 15 minutes or so while I was chatting with family and friends during the fellowship, when we were serving refreshments.

Of course, it could be just that the butterfly just wanted to rest and stayed there for no other reason but I would like to believe that it has more significance than that. So, I looked online and there are actually different meanings to some people: it’s a kiss from God, they say they’re attracted to pure spirits, it’s a sign of good fortune, the transition from one phase of your life into the next, etc.

But I guess the meaning behind this is whatever it means to you. For me, it was really a comforting gesture. It means to me that everything will eventually be ok.
